Chile is Latin America´s Most Sustainable Nation


Argentina best at education; Colombia effectively fighting corruption Madrid/Miami, September 12, 2006: Chile is Latin America´s most sustainable and ethical nation, according to a study of over 50 economic, social, corruption, corporate governance/legal, political and environmental indicators comparing eight major Latin countries.

Argentina places second ahead of the biggest economies Mexico and Brazil in the annual ranking of Latin American nations compiled by Madrid-based sustainability rating firm Management & Excellence (M&E) in cooperation with LatinFinance, the leading monthly magazine.

Chile did best in most of the over 50 categories, such as being first in starting serious corporate governance reforms, starting in 2000. Its life expectancy of 77 years is highest and perception of poverty and crime lowest.

Chile weakness is high CO2 and SO2 emissions, partly owing to the large number of inhabitants living in Santiago (4.4 million of 15.6 million).
