Responsible sourcing: Do corporate initiatives make a difference?
For companies that are cultivating their vision of responsible sourcing, there are no easy fixes, argues Rachelle Jackson. I recently had a conversation with a stranger that went something like this.
The stranger had just learned that some brands and retailers work to promote decent labour standards in their supply chains. Shocked, she asked, “Nike? What about Nike?”
“Yes”, I said. They have a big programme with in-house auditors. “And Gap?” she asked, her eyes growing wide. “Gap is known in the industry as a leader in social compliance”, I replied.
“What about Wal-Mart?” The stranger leaned forward in anticipation.
