Leak scandal claims chairwoman at HP
Moving to quell its boardroom upheaval, Hewlett-Packard said Tuesday that its chairwoman, Patricia Dunn, would step down in January and would be succeeded by Mark Hurd, the chief executive.
The company also announced that George Keyworth 2nd, the company's longest-serving director, had resigned. Keyworth had been identified last spring as a source of news leaks in an investigation ordered by Dunn, which used questionable, and perhaps illegal, subterfuge to obtain phone records of directors and journalists. He had refused a request to resign in May.
The disclosure of the investigation and its methods last week has left HP, a leading computer and printer company, in crisis. The announcements Tuesday followed two days of telephone consultations by the board in which the prime topic was Dunn's future. Dunn will continue to serve on the board.
