
Councilman Bev Fitzpatrick should have known not to vote on issues involving IMG while he served on Roanoke's housing authority board.
It should be Ethics 101: If you're a public official, you simply don't vote on issues in which you may have a financial stake.
City Councilman Bev Fitzpatrick must have missed class that day.
While serving on the Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority board prior to his appointment to city council, Fitzpatrick voted on at least three issues dealing with the revamping of the Lincoln Terrace housing development -- a project managed by Fitzpatrick's employer at the time, The Issues Management Group.
In a written statement to The Roanoke Times, Fitzpatrick said, "I can assure you that I did not take any action while serving on the authority's board that I had any reason to believe was a violation of law or conflict of interest rules."
