Guidelines on corporate responsibility simplified
Guidelines viewed by businesses worldwide as a benchmark for corporate social responsibility have been simplified in the hope that more companies will report on their environmental and social impacts.
This follows concern that interest in non-financial reporting could otherwise be limited to a handful of multinationals.
Global Reporting Initiative, the Amsterdam-based non-profit agency responsible for drawing up the revised guidelines unveiled yesterday, said the framework included for the first time an “entry-level” option.
That meant businesses could choose to report on a limited number of issues, rather than all aspects of sustainable policy. The approach will benefit smaller and medium-sized enterprises that have cited the complexity of existing guidelines as a barrier to non-financial reporting, GRI said.
