Pernod takes ‘poison pill’ line


Another company that appears to be frightened by their shareholders and have decided to take away some of their power.

Shareholders should not allow it.

Pernod Ricard, the maker of Chivas Regal whisky and Jacob’s Creek wine, has become the latest French company to ask shareholders to approve a “poison pill” mechanism introduced by the government earlier this year.

At the group’s annual meeting on November 7, investors will be asked to vote on a resolution authorising Pernod Ricard’s board to issue warrants convertible into shares at a discounted price in the event of an unsolicited takeover approach.
