Protection of whistle-blowers key to effective corporate governance
Managers and auditors in Asia are becoming more aware of the need to protect employees who tip off on fraudulent activities in their workplace.
This is according to industry players at the Institute of Internal Auditors Conference in Singapore on Friday.
Still, they note that some 90% of whistle-blowers lose their jobs.
The Asian region is becoming more aware of the need to protect employees who tip off on managers who cheat.
"We're seeing positive signs in organisations in the region. At least they've been talking about whistle-blowing today, which is an issue. We're certainly seeing organisations today, thinking about putting whistle-blowing processes in place," says Bob McDonald, Past Chairman, Institute of Internal Auditors International.
