The representationof women on management boards and governing bodies

Results of the survey
There are always different ways of interpreting the results: we can congratulate ourselves on the presence of some women on the Executive Committees of numerous large companies, and of the very remarkable presence of four emblematic women who have managed to make their mark by becoming President of their companies.

Nevertheless we cannot avoid noticing the slow rate of evolution: the results are there, stubborn, globally disappointing. In Europe as in Asia, women represent less than 5% of Executive Committee members of the largest companies, based on their market capitalisation. There are about 10% on the Boards of Directors of European companies (the figure remains less than 5% in Asia). The United States make an honourable showing with respectively 15% and 16% of female presence in these two structures.

And yet, equality seemed to have totally become part of everyday life: it is a reality in Universities and “Grandes Ecoles” (elite schools); there are no more male-exclusive strongholds.
