Siemens refuels executive pay debate


A sensitive populist debate about executive pay flared up again in Germany this week after Siemens, the engineering group, awarded its management a 30 per cent pay rise amid a round of job cuts, stagnant profits and the demise, announced on Thursday, of its former mobile phone handsets business.

The dispute underlines Germany's strained relationship with what is seen as Anglo-American-style management pay.
