Ethics and compliance officers - Little training, increased liability


Ethics-related professionals need a seat at executive and boardroom tables

Five years after Enron, WorldCom and other corporate corruption stories first stormed the business headlines, North American companies are still struggling with how to manage and staff and their ethics functions, says the Conference Board of Canada (CBC).

Meanwhile, the corporate compliance and ethics role continues to evolve even as practitioners attempt to come to terms with it.

Frequently, individuals are “thrust into the role with little preparation or training”, argues CBC, a respected research group, while the personal liability incurred by these professionals appears to be increasing.
