CHRAJ has proved effective in national development, says official
Mr. Victor Ebo Jonah, an investigation officer of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), has disclosed that the Commission has effectively made research and investigations concerning complaints of violations of fundamental human rights, freedoms, injustice, corruption and abuse of power in the country.
In an interview with the ADM, he said CHRAJ is a constitutional body set up to investigate and ensure that fundamental rights of citizens are not trampled upon. He said since the establishment of the CHRAJ in 1993, it has combined different institutional mandates in a single office.
He explained that the Constitution and enabling legislation also gave the Commission an anti-corruption mandate which empowered it to investigate corruption allegations against and enforce ‘Code of Conduct’ for public officials.
Mr. Jonah explained that human rights violations and acts of administrative injustice tend to overlap. He said there has been effective collaboration and coordination between the different offices to minimize duplication of functions and resources.
