Manpower Employment Outlook Survey - UK

The Manpower Employment Outlook Survey of over 1,700 UK employers reveals a confident hiring climate for the first quarter of 2007. All respondents were asked: how do you anticipate total employment at your location changing during the first three months of the year, compared to the current quarter?

UK employers predict a buoyant Quarter 1 2007 with 18% anticipating an increase in hiring activity compared with 6% predicting a decrease in staffing levels, resulting in a Net Employment Outlook of +12%.

The data shows that 74% of employers plan no change to their workforce size in the next three months and only 2% are unsure of their hiring intentions. The Net Employment Outlook of +12% represents a one percentage point increase on Quarter 4 2006 and a three percentage point increase over the same period last year, when the Net Employment Outlook was +9%.
