Origin Versus Host Country: Who Wins in the Human Resources Field?


Employment relations in multinational corporations of American origin are more standardized, formalized and centralized in their policy making compared with those of other nationalities. They are also particularly hostile to any form of worker representation. How do American values and attitudes influence the shaping of a multinational's approach to managing their workforce? What role do the host countries play in the process? A group of professors from various universities propose a framework to analyze the "home" and "host" country effects o­n employment policies and practices in multinational corporations.
