Mr. Yanukovich is from the old school. It is not surprising that he does not want to see elections.

Viktor Yanukovich, Ukraine's prime minister, vowed that his governing coalition would not submit to last week's disputed presidential decree ordering early parliamentary elections.
Writing in the Financial Times, he said: "The constitution of Ukraine defines specific circumstances under which the president has the right to dissolve parliament and call an early election. None of these existed."
Backed by a majority of legislators, Mr Yanukovich has held firm in a two-week constitutional standoff with President Viktor Yushchenko which has plunged Ukraine into its worst political crisis since the Orange Revolution of 2004.
