Business is responsible and business is good for society
The Director General of the Institute of Directors (IoD) will mount a strong defence of the contribution that business makes to society, but will stress that business has to be more open and more transparent if it is to enjoy the public confidence that it deserves.
At the IoD's Annual Convention at the Royal Albert Hall, Miles Templeman will say:
'Almost every challenge that the new Prime Minister faces will require a business-led solution. Whether it's climate change or the training deficit or the pensions crisis, the answers will come from innovative, go-ahead companies....
..... Business leaders have to stand up and speak up about what business contributes to society. We have to speak up for the jobs we create, the training we provide, the pensions we fund and the communities we work in where our businesses are simply part of the fabric of life.
IoD members have to say unequivocally and without embarrassment that business is good for you.'
