EU Falling Behind US in Securing Energy Supplies - Press Release
Security of energy supply has topped the agenda of recent international political meetings, including the March 2007 meeting of the EU's Council of Ministers (heads of state). EU efforts to secure energy supplies for the future are, however, lagging behind those of the US. According to new research by independent market analyst Datamonitor (DTM.L), while recent US government action has provoked the first boom in nuclear power plant construction in nearly 30 years, no such framework of support exists in the EU. And while US gas imports are limited to 20% of gas use, European gas imports from foreign sources are set to pass the 50% mark for the first time.
