
Ghana's finance minister, Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu, struck a poignant note yesterday on the resignation of Paul Wolfowitz. Speaking in Potsdam on the sidelines of consultations on Africa by G8 industrialised states, he praised the World Bank president as someone "who really got his hands dirty" when on trips through the African continent.
Recalling a visit by Mr Wolfowitz to Ghana in March, Mr Baah-Wiredu said the president was someone who did not shy from visiting remote villages, markets and agriculture projects.
"He was ready to walk through villages and on one occasion to eat only a simple lunch in a forest between programme stops," he said. "Working from 7am in the morning until 1am at night was normal during his visit," he added.
