CSR challenges for Malaysian PLCs
Malaysian public-listed companies face challenges ahead in incorporating their corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities in their annual reports come Dec 31, 2007, as required by Bursa Malaysia under Chapter 9 Continuing Disclosure.
According to PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Malaysia executive director Azizan Zakaria, a main challenge for these companies would be how much more to include in their reports.
“Some companies already have some CSR reporting done, but there is still a lot of work to be done. Going forward, they need to think about how to enhance and adopt the best practices,” he said after speaking at PwC’s briefing on "Corporate Responsibility - Are the companies meeting stakeholder expectations?" on Nov 23.
He said companies had to make statements in their annual financial report on CSR activities. “The requirement also said that if you haven’t got any, just say so. But the pressure is on companies to do a lot more.
