US regulator eyes London as base for Europe office


America's most powerful financial markets regulator could soon have a presence in London as the Securities and Exchange Commission considers whether to open the first overseas office in its 73-year history.

Christopher Cox, chairman, said in an interview with the Financial Times that the SEC was deciding between the UK capital and Brussels as the regulator seeks to forge closer ties with foreign counterparts.
