
Expanding the role of the private sector in upholding the integrity of the country’s capital market is among the Securities Commission’s (SC) key challenges next year, its chairman Datuk Zarinah Anwar said.
This would include getting more public-listed companies (PLCs) to embed high levels of corporate governance and enhance professional conduct, she said.
“Both the SC and private sector must build on the momentum of awareness that was generated in 2007. This will be a major part of the SC’s work for 2008,” she said.
On SC’s performance in the past year, Zarinah, who described 2007 as a “fruitful” year, said one significant development was the deployment of a strategic approach to enforcement to ensure swift and effective outcomes.
