
Softening public support for the free market economy combined with growing favorability toward regulation could signal challenges for global companies.
GlobeScan explored the role of government in the economy, specifically, the support for government regulation of the economy in general as well as of large companies in specific areas.
Overall favor for the free market economy is high, with majorities or pluralities in all countries surveyed except France agreeing that it is the best system on which to base the future of the world. In addition to France, enthusiasm for the free market economy is also relatively weak in Turkey, Russia, and Argentina.
