Office workers not heeding green message


Despite massive government spending on campaigns to get Australians to cut greenhouse gas emissions, the conservation message is not reaching the workplace, a study has found.

The latest annual Pilot BeGreen Office Audit, conducted by Newspoll and released, found seven in 10 businesses left air conditioning on at night, while 10 per cent still left on their lights - as many as a year ago.

It also found 36 per cent of office workers did not switch off their computers at night and 86 per cent unnecessarily printed hard copy documents instead of proofing on the screen.

Environmental expert Arron Wood, the prime minister's environmentalist of the year last year, said he was disturbed by the findings.
