The three-year federal crackdown on overseas bribery cases has netted a growing number of oil and gas companies that funneled payments through foreign contractors to government officials in Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
While it's often difficult to know which side initiated the bribe, the structure of the international petroleum business sometimes leads to situations in which corrupt payments are made, a Baker Hughes executive said.
