Boardroom debate: When simplicity can be taken too far


Complexity seems to be the hallmark of modern living, whether it be organising one’s daily schedule or steering an organisation through chaotic economic straits. Many people and organisations are at breaking point because of the complexity they are faced with.

The antidote appears to be simplicity. The solutions seem to fall into the categories of avoiding complexity as proposed by the philosopher Henry David Thoreau about 150 years ago, or engineering simplicity out of complexity as Edward de Bono, the management consultant, proposed 20 years ago.
