Age discrimination claims to rise as redundancies soar
The number of employees claiming that they have been unfairly discriminated against on age grounds will rise as 1,600 people are made redundant every day.
According to the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development, 600,000 workers face redundancy during 2009, with many others facing pay freezes or outright pay cuts.
The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development forecast this week that 600,000 workers could face redundancy during 2009.
Sophie Whitbread, an associate in the employment department of leading law firm Charles Russell, said that large numbers of employees would claim that they have been discriminated against when made redundant, either because they are too old, or too young.
