ABI calls for review of directors' roles


The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has called for an overhaul of the roles of company chairmen and senior independent directors as part of a renewed drive to improve best practice in Britain's boardrooms.

Amid growing question marks over the effectiveness of executives charged with policing company boards, the lobby group for the fund management industry also reignited its call for the annual re-election of directors.

This should help to improve accountability in the wake of a growing list of financial scandals, the ABI said.

The ABI's members own a large portion of UK listed companies.
