Inside Obama's Green Budget


Obama's plan looks to fund a host of new energy programs. A peek at the coming fight.

President Barack Obama's 2010 budget proposal is vague on a lot of things, but it's clear in one area: his intention to use the government to fight climate change.

It won't be easy. Opponents say the expense of meeting emissions standards, and relying on more costly renewable sources of energy, could make U.S. business less competitive and cause them to shed jobs.

"This will be the heart of the argument," says Michael Ettlinger, a budget analyst at the liberal Center for American Progress. "Whoever wins that fight will decide how climate policy advances."
