UK organisations need to get ready for carbon reduction regulations


The UK’s Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and lobby group the CBI are urging businesses and organisations to get ready for new carbon reduction regulations.

Next April the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) will come into force covering banks, hotels, local authorities, schools, universities and 5000 other organisations that use more than 6000 MWh of electricity a year (equivalent to an annual bill of around £500,000).

Yesterday DECC published a new guide to the legislation aimed at helping organisations prepare for the change. But the CBI says that the Government needs to do more to raise awareness amongst affected organisations.

“Many companies remain unaware and unprepared for what the Government’s CRC will involve, and are in for a real shock,” says Neil Bentley.
