
Software firms tout technology to help companies go green and track emissions.
First the software industry gave us nifty tools to track and link financial functions within a company automatically, like accounting and purchasing. Now it's creating technology to marshal data about companies' carbon emissions and use of natural resources, like water and coal--with an eye toward helping them use less.
One company trying to capitalize on the trend, Hara Software, officially launches its product Monday. The company, founded in 2007 by former executives of software outfit SAP ( SAP - news - people ), has received $6 million from venture-capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. It says more than a dozen organizations, including Coca-Cola ( KO - news - people ), are using its product.
