The document “Emigration of skilled human resources from Latin American and Caribbean countries: Current trends and prospects” will be subject to analysis during the Regional Meeting to be held on Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 in the headquarters of the Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA).
The study, prepared by the Permanent Secretariat of SELA analyzes the social and economic impacts of the emigration of qualified human resources from Latin American and Caribbean countries on the region’s economic growth and development. In the document, the terms “qualified” and “skilled” are used to describe those migrants that have certain qualifications, either on account of the educational level they have attained, in view of the type of craft occupation they develop or in reference to both. In this analysis, skilled migrants are defined as those individuals who have attained a level of schooling that corresponds to tertiary education and who were born in a country other than their country of residence.
