'Shortage' in green skills

Research conducted into skills shortages in park and green space management roles has found there is a lack of trained staff.

The Green Space Skills 2009 report, produced by English Heritage and the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE), revealed an "urgent need" to tackle the shortage.

Green space employers in the public, private and third sectors were surveyed on the effects of the recession and service cuts on park and green space jobs.

According to the report, a quarter of those in the public sector expect recruitment to decrease, with a fifth saying green space departments are experiencing greater budget cuts than other local authority departments.
