Businesses urge greater transparency


Bankers and small business representatives last week urged officials from the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond and U.S. Rep. John Sarbanes to make government programs more understandable and streamline regulations.

During a roundtable held to discuss the regional economy and the ongoing lending challenges amidst the historic economic downturn, attendees said small business people have difficulty accessing government programs because information is often inaccessible and they don't have the time to devote to hunting for it. They also said regulations are hurting small banks.
