Law Council of Australia calls for fairness for all asylum seekers


The Law Council of Australia today urged the Federal Government to review the way it processes offshore entry persons in the wake of a landmark decision of the High Court.

The High Court declared that two Sri Lankan asylum seekers were not afforded procedural fairness while having their claims processed at Christmas Island.

Law Council President, Glenn Ferguson, said yesterday’s ruling was an important step in ensuring fair process and access to justice for all asylum seekers.
