Microfinance brings cheer to Gurgaon villages


GURGAON: The microfinance bubble, with all its ambitious promises of economic emancipation for the poorest of poor, might have burst in most parts of the country, but the villages around Gurgaon seem to be benefitting immensely with the formation of various microfinance groups and federations that have been growing by the day. Primarily started by a group of women who wanted to contribute to the family income, these groups have now created employment for its members, and that holds the micro credit model in firm roots of productivity.

Anita Raghav, president of one of the major micro credit federations in Kherla village, said, The most important factor behind the micro credit revolution in the area was the rising awareness amongst women on various socio-economic problems and their roots.
