Dr. Tinus Pulles talks about climate change - Part 1 of 3

Dr. Tinus Pulles of TNO explains the difficulties to find solutions for the climate change problem.

One of these is the remaining uncertainty in climate science, reflected in the recent controversy triggered by errors in the IPCC-reports. For many this controversy justifies inaction and delay, although the main conclusions of the IPCC are not affected by these errors. IPCCs summary of the scientific literature does make it very likely that climate change occurs. The probability that this will lead to significant effects is, according to IPCC, about 20 times higher than the probability that climate change will not appear to be a problem.

A second important problem is the mismatch between the temporal and spatial scales of changes in the climate system and those of individual and political decision making. Climate change is a global problem on a time scale of decades to centuries, whereas people and policymakers make decisions for the immediate future and at local to national scales.
