
Government corruption often involves big power plays and causes pain to many individuals and groups—that’s why corruption stories are so compelling. Hollywood has used this theme in a number of films.
The money-making scheme that brought down several Republican members of Congress who worked with uber lobbyist Jack Abramoff has become fodder for Hollywood. “Casino Jack” finds Kevin Spacey giving an over-the-top performance in the lead role as Abramoff, the man with the penchant for black fedoras who wound up in jail on conspiracy charges related to bilking Native American tribes out of millions of dollars. Brashly stating that “nothing is more important than influence,” Spacey as Abramoff takes audiences on a wild ride through the corruption Abramoff left in his wake.
