The causes are many, but the outcome is the same: A global water shortage is becoming a serious threat as a growing population and global industrialization in many countries increases the demand for water. Water security, therefore, is a crucial issue. Without it, we face the prospect of conflict, hunger and a reduced quality of life. The challenge facing governments, communities, and manufacturers worldwide is how to secure water supply now and into the future.
Coca-Cola, Nestlé, Standard Chartered Bank and Miller Brewing Company recently worked with the World Bank to publish "Charting Our Water Future," a report that warns that without global action, demand for water in 2030 will outstrip supply by 40 percent and create what it calls a "water gap."
