
A Hungarian professor of economics – who held the position of head of his country’s market watchdog for just over a year – has been awarded one of the most important regulatory roles in Europe.
Dr Adam Farkas, the ex-head of Hungary’s capital markets regulator and former chief executive of Allianz Bank’s operations in the country, has been appointed as the first executive director of the European Banking Authority.
In his role, he will run the day-to-day operations of the EBA, which is one of the three new EU super-regulators – and the only one based in London. He will report to chairman Andrea Enria.
