Governments should concentrate on providing decent child care to coax single parents into work

MAINTAINING a career while raising a child can be a difficult balance for parents to strike. These pressure are all the more intense if the mother (or father) is single and local child care is expensive. In Britain, for example, where child-care costs are over double the OECD average, less than half of single parents are employed.
