Governance matters

Governance remains a central theme of stewardship in both the corporate and public sector here in the UK and throughout the world.

The last twelve months have seen a fresh wave of governance initiatives including the Stewardship Code, the UK Corporate Governance Code, the FRC guidance on Board Effectiveness and a whole host of EU and government sponsored green papers such as narrative reporting, the Davies Report on Women On Boards and the EU papers on audit market and the corporate governance framework. In many cases the proposals, if adopted, would lead to radical changes in the principles based, comply or explain framework in which the UK leads the way.

Our tenth annual FTSE 350 Corporate Governance Review was released in November 2011. Three new reviews into governance in Not For Profit, Local Authorities and the Healthcare sector will be published in spring 2012.
