Equal Pay Day has important points to make
Sunday is Equal Pay Day and the Australian Human Right’s Commission’s Sex Discrimination Commissioner, Elizabeth Broderick, says there are both reasons to be optimistic and reasons to be concerned.
“Encouragingly, last year the Full Bench of Fair Work Australia handed down its historic decision on the equal remuneration case filed by the Australian Services Union, with a finding of undervaluation of work and pay in the highly feminised social and community services sector,” Commissioner Broderick said.
“And this year, in the same case, Fair Work Australia handed down the remuneration order for increases to the minimum pay for workers in this sector of between 23 and 45 per cent.”
