Project Outputs
Good Governance Workshop Series
In 2005, Chatham House and the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP) launched the first producer-centred initiative on good governance of the national petroleum sector. The project offered an informal forum in which officials and executives from the producing countries could share their knowledge and shape common principles and guidelines in discussion with experts and representatives from national and international civil society.
Petroleum sector representatives from over 20 producing countries took part in three highly successful workshops in which we discussed the major governance issues facing oil and gas producers, established five principles of good governance and examined several country-specific case studies in-depth. The producer perspective led the project to focus on establishing clear goals, roles and responsibilities for the sector, the enablement of the national oil company and maximizing the long-term benefits of the development of resources.
