THE World Heritage Commission's recent assessment of the Great Barrier Reef and consideration to have it removed from World Heritage listing is timely and valid, says author Len Zell.
Zell, who is also a field and marine guide, says we have failed dismally to protect and preserve the reef for future generations.
He talks about the influence of tourism on the reef and the many other environmental concerns.
