Hedge Fund Regulation on the Horizon?


That may actually mean that we will have a little clearer exactly what these companies actually do. It seems like everyone is now calling themselves a hedge fund and there are cowboys out there with little experience and much chutzpah doing who knows what, but making a lot of noise.

Hedge fund regulation was the hot topic at a Senate Banking Committee hearing last month, and in the U.S. House of Representatives, Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., introduced a bill that would give the Securities and Exchange Commission authority to require hedge funds to register. A recent court decision struck down the SEC's previous hedge fund registration rule. A link to the full text of the proposed law, which was referred to subcommittee last month, is provided here.
