US ready to take the lead on climate change
• Panel: 2009 is the year for a global agreement on climate change
• US economic stimulus plan includes spending on green projects
Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, 30 January 2009 − We are running out of time, we must have a planetary solution to a planetary crisis, urged Nobel Laureate Al Gore at a World Economic Forum Annual Meeting session on climate change.
The call for urgency comes as world leaders prepare to meet at the United Nations Climate Change Conference Copenhagen at the end of this year to set a global framework for tackling global warming and climate change.
”What we most need out of Copenhagen is a clear, shared vision of where the world is going in the future,” Gore said. “The assumption that we can continue on this path is the assumption that we are collapsing.”
