They see a sea-change in their profession

The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) said that practising company secretaries would be issuing compliance certificate for corporate governance from 1 April .

Addressing presspersons here, R Ravi, president, ICSI said that the institute's council has adopted a new vision and mission statement and it visualised Company Secretary as a catalyst for good corporate governance, a corporate planner and a strategic planner.

Ravi said that ICSI has proposed to the Ministry of Labour to allow the practising company secretaries to issue certificate of complainace of labour laws. He said that secretaries appointed by the shareholders will audit the compliance of various Industry and Labour laws like the Factories Act, Workers Compensation Act, ESI Act and others. Practising secretaries will submits the report of on non-compliance of labour laws by companies to bring it to the attention of shareholders and the Board of Directors for remedial action. He added that ICSI has already made presentation to the Ministry which is interested in it.
