As spring flurries of corporate proxy circulars bring their annual tidings of executive hyper-affluence, Canadian investors are left with the questions: What makes someone worth $93 million a year? Or $50 million? Over even $5 million?
"When you're getting into mid and high double-digit millions, there's a problem," says Tom Caldwell, chairman of Caldwell Securities Ltd.
"Not only is it exorbitant and abusive; the other thing is that some of these folks start to believe that they're actually worth it - that's the real danger," Caldwell added.
