Sarbanes-Oxley trickles down to nonprofits

Later this year, Congress is expected to consider legislation spelling out heightened corporate governance requirements for nonprofit organizations. States including New York and Massachusetts have considered, and California has enacted, similar legislation. With the potential for additional regulation looming, and in view of the critical importance of maintaining public trust, many nonprofit boards are already taking steps to ensure better oversight of their operations and transparency with respect to their activities.
