Something is going on at the European Commission in Brussels. Commission President José Manuel Barroso is appearing before a committee of the European Parliament to explain his all expenses paid Mediterranean cruise, paid for by Greek shipping tycoon, John Laksis.
His Communications Commissioner, Margot Wallstrom, is being criticised for a speech where she said that a NO vote for the European Constitution was the first step on the road to the Holocaust. Then, when it hits the press, she denies it and the denial has to be withdrawn and amended. And some are still investigating Peter Mandelson, the Trade Commissioner.
What's going on in Brussels? None of this is conducive to effective and successful management of the work of the Commission.
