Good Corporate Governance Vital in the Private Sector's Fight Against Corruption


Corruption is said to be one of the oldest vices in the world. Zambia is not spared of this vice, not even after declaring ourselves a Christian Nation.

Our rating on the Transparency International Corruption Perception Index for 2004 was 2.6, fairly or unfairly (10 = Highly Clean, 0 = Highly Corrupt). What ever the case, it is not flattering.

In the World Bank report on Zambia: An Assessment of Investment Climate of May 2004, corruption was listed as a major or severe constraint to doing business in Zambia by companies and was ranked No 7. Cost of finance was ranked No 1.
